Task

FIRST: In pairs, after studying the parts of the respiratory system, it will be your job to create one of it's parts out of clay or to write a first person narrative as "oxygen" or "carbon dioxide".  Remember, as the picture below shows, oxygen comes in, carbon dioxide goes out. After you study the parts of the system, you will know the journey that both oxygen and carbon dioxide take.  Maybe you will be fascinated with how a particular part works, and want to create a clay model.  IT IS YOUR CHOICE!  In this assignment you can decide to become an artist or a writer! (Both students in a pair will be responsible for their own individual project.  It does not matter if you both choose to create a model.  It does not matter if you both choose to write a narrative).

Breathing seems so easy, and yet, there are many parts involved!  In order to keep track of such a complex system, it will be important to keep track of all the parts.  Take a sheet of paper and divide it into three parts.  For the first part you will write PART OF THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM.  The second part will be THE FUNCTION OF THIS PART, and the third will be DRAWING OR DESCRIPTION.

SECOND:After you create your masterpiece, you will study a few things that hurt and damage the respiratory system.  There are many groups that try to teach about the dangers to the respiratory system.  You and your partner will become writer's.  It will be your job to create a poster or brochure teaching about dangers of smoking or the damages of outdoor pollution.  Again, be sure to take notes on the information that you find.  You may want to divide a page into three parts, one for the DANGERS OF SMOKING, the second THE DANGERS OF AIR POLLUTION, and the third WHAT WE CAN DO TO PROTECT OURSELVES FROM AIR POLLUTION. This will help you organize your information.
