Process
1. The first thing you will want to do to get started on this lesson is find a computer to work at during the 72 minute class period. Log on and open both Microsoft Word and the Internet.
2. You will now need to create a title for your Word document. Keep in mind that you will be reporting your findings and writing your analysis in this document. A sample heading could be something like "How the Detroit Tigers Market Game Tickets and an Analysis of the Effectiveness of Their Strategy." (I will be using the Tigers as my team of choice for examples.)
3. Your Word document should follow the following format:
- 1st paragraph: Product
Use this paragraph to tell the reader which team's ticket marketing mix you chose to research and provide the address of the website that you used.
- 2nd paragraph: Place
Use this paragraph to tell the reader where tickets are available for purchase. Examples of this may include the team's website, another ticket sales site, at the stadium, or other venue.
- 3rd paragraph: Price
Use this paragraph to document ticket prices. Be sure to include the prices for all the different seat locations, boxes, group sale prices, and any package deals such as advance purchase or family ticket & meal deals.
- 4th paragraph: Promotion
Use this paragraph to describe the different types of promotion that the team uses to market tickets. This paragraph is likely to contain the most information and you may need to go to a separate links for promotion information. Look for the following:
** Who sponsors this team? What events or other promotions does this company use?
** Are any stores offering discounted tickets if customers purchase specific products/services from them?
** Are players involved in any form of personal selling or endorsements?
4. The 5th paragraph, or conclusion, will be where you provide your thoughts and suggestions about the overall marketing mix used by this team to sell game tickets. Explain which elements you feel are effective and not effective. Also, provide 2 or more suggestions that you think the team could use to enhance their overall Marketing Mix (you can use 1 or all 4 of the elements - your choice!)
5. At the end of the class period, you will turn your document in for evaluation.
