Process

Step 1:

First, you and your partner need to decide on a topic to research.  Every topic will be researched by two different groups.  You may look at several of the topics to decide what you are most interested in.  When you and your partner have decided upon a topic, raise your hand and tell Ms. Bishop/Ms. Jenkins what you have chosen.  Make sure you have a back up topic in case your first choice is already taken.  Since you have a limited amount of time to complete this project, do not spend longer than ten minutes choosing a topic. Remember, you will be responsible for becoming an expert on the topic you choose!

After you have chosen a topic, you and your partner should each do research (which requires reading!) and take good notes on what you are discovering.  You will use these notes to compile your final product.  Remember it is easier to narrow down the amount of information you have then to return to research to find more information.  In other words, you can never have too much information during this step in the process!

Topic Choices (You must choose one of these topics!):

1.    The Great Depression

2.    The Dust Bowl

3.    The Civil Rights Movement

4.     The Scottsboro Boys (The actual people, not the trial!)

5.    The Scottsboro Boys Trial

6.    Herbert Hoover and Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s roles in The Great Depression (Hint: New Deal, Second New deal)

7.   Life in America during the 1930's

8.    Harper Lee (Author of To Kill a Mockingbird)

These are just some good jumping off points.  There are countless credible websites on the Internet on the 1930's that you can use for this assignment.

Use Nettrakker to find additonal credible resources on your topic.

Step 2:

In this step, each partner will choose a role within the group.  You will both be writers.  On top of this, there will be an editor and a graphic designer.  Each member will contribute at least seven points of information to the study guide.

Editor:  The editor has the most important job in the group.  He/she will choose the layout of the study guide, the importance of each block of information, and have preside over group discussions.  The editor will also contribute seven points to the study guide.

Writer:  As writers, think of yourselves as the idea people of the group.  You will both need to throw out the hot topics during group meetings and compile a list of what you think should be included in the study guide.

Graphic Designer: The graphic designer will determine the layout of the final product.  You must include pictures and visuals in the final product, so he/she will also provide some sort of visual representation for key points of information that will help guide and remind the students of significance/meaning.

After you have chosen your roles, you will need to compile your final product.  For this section of the project you must create a study guide.  For the study guide, you should present the information in an organized manner and create interesting ways for your classmates to remember the information.  Be creative!

All final products must include:

1. At least 14 facts total (You will probably have more than this!)

2. Pictures/ Visual Representations

3. A Title

4.  Works cited (Give credit to the websites you used at the bottom of your projects--you may simply copy and paste the web address!)

5. An error free final product!

Step 3:

Create a Word document with your study guide information and graphics. Print it out for Ms. Bishop/ Ms. Jenkins. Maintain a copy in EACH student's user drive.  You will also need to e-mail your final product to Ms. Bishop/ Ms. Jenkins AND your partner.  (To access your e-mail go to http://mail.myplace.wcs.edu--use your usual user name and password to access your personal account)

You may need to save a p-drive copy to move into individual student user drives.

YOUR DEADLINE IS THE END OF CLASS ON FRIDAY!
