Quest 2:
Sports Reporter Presentation
Pretend that you are a sports reporter for your local newspaper. Write an article for your local newspaper announcing the upcoming start of the Iditarod Race. Be sure to explain the race thoroughly to your readers who do not know about it.
You and your partner have two class periods to prepare a one to two minute presentation telling your audience about the Iditarod Race. Your presentation must include all the information found on the scavenger hunt. You may also add information to make your presentation more interesting. Remember: you are to act like sports reporters for a local newspaper while giving your presentation.
You and your partner will need to answer all questions on the scavenger hunt worksheet before you begin writing your article. These questions will guide you in what information you need to include in your newspaper article. When you present your article for the class, you may use index cards as a guide. However, you should not read them the entire presentation. Maintaining eye contact with your audience is important! You may bring home your notes and practice giving your presentation.
Be sure to check the presentation rubric under evaluation so you know how you will be graded.
You may go back to the links used when completing the scavenger hunt or you may use the following links to find any additional information for your presentation - remember to use your back button when you want to return to this page.
Quest 3:
Get to Know a Musher!
Click on the following link to read biographies about different mushers and by looking at photographs of the 2010 entrant listings.
After reading about the different mushers, you and your partner decide on a musher that you want to win the race. Use your back button to come back to this page.
Using two class periods, create a colorful poster of your dog sled team. Your poster must include:
-

-

-
Something personal about Musher
-
Why you chose this Musher
-
Pictures: may be hand-drawn or computer print-outs
Make sure you and your partner work on this project. Look at how you will be graded for this poster. This rubric is found under evaluation.
Create a rough draft first using notebook paper. After creating a rough draft, your teacher will give you a piece of poster paper.
After you and your partner have completed your poster, go to conclusion.
