Process
1.) You will first conduct research on one of the following innovators / innovations, using the Innovator Information Sheet sheet to help you locate the most pertinent information:
- Thaddeus Cahill - the telharmonium
- Leon Terman - the theremin
- Laurens Hammond - the Hammond Organ
- Pierre Schaeffer - Musique Concrete
- Harry Olsen & Hebert Belar -the RCA Mark I & II synthesizers
- Vladimir Ussachevsky - early electronic music
- Robert Moog - the Moog Synthesizer
- Wendy Carlos - "Switched on Bach"
- Les Paul - electric guitar & multitrack recording
- The Yamaha corporaton - modern synthesizers
Here are some websites you may find helpful in your research:
2.) After conducting your research, you will review your information with any other student who is researching the same person. This review should focus on continuity of information. In other words, did you both find the same information?
3.) If you encounter any terms which you are unfamiliar with, write them on your innovator worksheet and then find out their meanings.
4.) Now consider any technological developments that were taking place during the time period you investigated and think about how these changes affected your topic.
5.) Once you have compared notes, and thought about various advances, you are to decide the best way to present your information to the class. This can be done through a powerpoint presentation, a poster, a mini-lecture or any other means you think will work for you. Whatever you choose, the presentation MUST include either a visual or a recording (ideally both).
