Teacher Introduction
Hello Colleague! This is a lesson that was designed to help students understand how three important systems in our bodies function and work. Many elementary students are familiar, and enjoy reading the Magic School Bus book series, and this lesson is geared toward the idea of traveling through a system in order to gain information. Additionally, students are introduced to non-fiction text features, and this lesson enables students to read articles that are in the non-fiction genre. I explained in the learner section that this lesson is designed for elementary students, but can easily be adapted to fit the needs of middle school and high school learners. In order to meet the needs of older learners, the depth of each of the job's can be altered as well as the final product.
This lesson is meant to get the students thinking about their bodies and the systems that work together to make them who they are! Through their research, students will be able to better understand the process of digestion, (digestive system) how blood flows (circulatory system), and how the lungs work (respiratory system). An ideal field trip would be to the Bodies Exhibit in New York City, where students would be given a chance to explore the human body in a more authentic setting.
