In this WebQuest using Gary Paulsen's novel Soldier's Heart, students will work in collaborative teams to compose and create a journal and scrapbook from the protagonist, Charley Goddard's, point of view. Students will work in groups of three, trading the roles of writer, illustrator, and cartographer/artifact collector for each diary entry.

Introduction

You are just 15 when you lie about your age to join the Union Army in the first days of the Civil War. You survive Bull Run, Gettysburg, and other battles and brutalities without names. By the end of the war, both your body and soul are broken. Your name is Charley Goddard, and you will record your thoughts and feelings in a diary that draws from the novel Soldier's Heart and other sources.
