Task

First you will study a number of resources that will help you to understand the properties of right triangles, the history of the Pythagorean Theorem, how to use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the missing side of a right triangle, and how to prove that a triangle is a right triangle.

You will be working in groups of 3-4 and will have to  apply what you have learned about the Pythagorean Theorem to one of the situations below:

1.) Help the Yankees Create their baseball "diamond"

2.) Help a Firefighter put out a fire

3.) Clear the damage from a storm

4.) Help a mother catch her mischievous child

5.) Find the right ladder for a window cleaner

6.) Find out how far you live from your friend.

7.) Help a truck driver determine the length of the ramp he needs to  drive up.

You will then create your own situations that you will use the Pythagorean Theorem to resolve.
