Task

Your job is to make your school a greener place!

After navigating through The Natural Resources Defense Council Website, you will be an expert on ways to save energy and make your school a greener place! Now it is time to take action!

Choose ONE product from the following list to present to the school. The assignment will be due one week from today, because every minute counts in the race to save our Earth!

OPTION # 1

Individually, develop a publicity poster campaign to encourage your school community to practice sustainability in a specific area of the school. For example, if you choose to focus on the cafeteria, develop a campaign that includes reduce, reuse, recycle, composting, school gardens, eating locally produced foods, eating less processed food, etc. The examples provided on the NRDC website are useful for this option. You are responsible for creating at least five different posters to be displayed in your chosen area of the school to support sustainability.

OPTION # 2

Pair up with a classmate and perform an informal energy inventory of one area of the school. Areas of focus might include: indoor or outdoor air quality, waste removal, cafeteria food sources, pesticide use, green cleaning products, reducing electricity use, etc. You will be responsible for at least one interview of school staff in your chosen area, as well as a write-up of your results. These results will be presented to the school board and/or principal.

OPTION # 3

In groups of three, you will design and create a music video about sustainability in the school. You may choose to base it on one of the following songs, or you may write your own song. The video must be at least 1.5 minutes long and will be broadcast school-wide on the morning announcements.
