Teacher Process
This Webquest can take anything from 2 to 3 weeks depending on the classroom access to computers. If there is only a few computers available for use, prepare for more time.
In order for the students to present their multimedia, their should ideally be projector screen hooked up to a computer. If not, have the students print out pictures that can be shown.
The Webquest was originally intended for a mathematics classroom, but was made to have a lot of cultural aspects. This can be adjusted to be more "mathy" by incorporating things like mileage. One idea is to use the Google Earth software or the Google Maps site to have the students map out their paths through Japan. Also, they can use the various tools in the software to do things like compare populations percentages in Japan, look at elevation data, etc.
Alternatively, an international studies or social studies teacher can opt to not include the budget aspect and focus more on cultural aspects. In a more life skills sort of course, this quest can be used to emphasize the organization and planning aspects of the trip.
