Culture

a. explore and describe similiarities and differences in the ways groups, societies, and cultures address similar human needs and concerns

b. describe ways in which language, stories, folktales, music, and artistic creations serve as expressions of culture and influence behavior of pepole living in a particular culture

People, Places, & Environments

b. interpret, use, and distinguish various representations of the earth, such as maps, globes, and photographs

e. locate and distinguish among varying landforms and geographic features, such as mountains, plateaus, islands, and oceans


Virginia Standards of Learning

The standards for second grade students include an introduction to the heritage and contributions of the people of ancient China. Students should continue developing map skills and demonstrate an understanding of basic economic concepts.

History

2.1The student will explain how the contributions of ancient China have influenced the present world in terms of architecture, inventions, the calendar, and written language.

 

2.3The student will identify and compare changes in community life over time in terms of buildings, jobs, transportation, and population.
