Teacher Process
This webquest is designed to allow students the opportunity to not only learn more about China and its culture, but to also present information about this place with others. Students will have the opportunity to explore different resources about China and compile their research to plan a trip.
The websites that were used as resources for the students should be suffice; however, if the teacher feels that students needs additional information that is not presented in these sources, the teacher can feel free to either add resources, or if necessary take away resources.
Teachers should allow at least 2 - 3 days for students to go through the available web resources provided in this website to complete their assigned roles for the second part of the Webquest. After students have had the opportunity to gather enough information using these resources, the teacher may introduce supplementary resources, including maps, textbook and other informational books, and travel agency information to assist the students if necessary.
After all of the research requirements have been completed, there should be at least another day or two given to the students to compile all of their information and create their schedule with plenty of detail, their travel agency ad, and travel brochure. On the final day of the week, the students should be given the opportunity to present their findings to the entire class, as perhaps students found out different aspects of China.
By allowing the students to share their findings, it gives the students the opportunity to work on their public speaking skills, building confidence in their work, and possibly grow more interest in the topics presented by other students.
If it appears that students are having difficulty in researching information, then the teacher should use his or her judgment in making adaptations for the students. If a five day schedule is a bit much for a particular class of students, then the teacher can feel free to make changes as necessary; for example making the schedule only for three days. It is best that teachers use their knowledge of their class and the student's understanding and capabilities when using this Webquest and following all of the requirements.
Finally, if for some reason there is an issue with equipment availablity in the classroom or school a teacher is trying to use this Webquest with, and students are able to get a computer of their own, then teachers can feel free allow students to work together on their roles, if they are forced to share computers. This is not necessarily a problem, but it should be expected that each student is still responsible for their portion of the research in the Webquest.
