Super Citizen, your first mission is to learn about Earth Day and ways that you can help our environment! Click on the following links, complete the tasks, and gather information to store in your superhero brain! Fill out your Super Citizen WebQuest Contract as you go along.
- Get excited about Earth Day by singing along with this fun song from PBS Kids!
- Read It's Earth Day, Dear Dragon, by Margaret Hillert.
- Use the words and pictures to help you answer the following questions in your journal. Don’t forget to use complete sentences.
1. What did Father want the little boy and his dragon to do?
2. Where did they go to do the work?
3. What special day was it?
4. What kind of work did the family do?
5. After they cleaned up at the park, what did the father buy for his family?
6. Why is it important to clean up trash and to plant new trees?
- Watch this video to learn about garbage, recycling, and responsible things you can do to help the Earth.
- Help these children clean up the river by collecting and sorting the trash. Notice what happens as the environment becomes cleaner!
- See how much you know about Earth Day by taking this Earth Day Quiz. Print out the question sheet and answer the questions by filling in the blanks.
- Read about The Top Five Ways you Can Help Save the Planet.
Your next mission is to tell all your friends about what you have learned!
Based on what you have just learned, choose your favorite task that will help save the planet. Work alone or with a partner to design a poster that shows what you know about taking care of the Earth. Remember, you want to encourage and persuade others in our school to do their part to help protect our environment. Use poster board, markers, crayons, clip art, magazine photos, words,and/or drawings to create your poster. Be creative! You will be sharing the poster with your classmates and then displaying it for the whole school to see so do your best!
