This webquest is designed to help students perceive and respond to messages in music. Students will describe what various pieces of music makes them think about and/or what it is saying to them on a personal level. Learners will also familiarize themselves with, and investigate the lives of the composers of the various musical selections featured.

Teacher Introduction

This lesson was developed as part of Utah's eMINTS Project.

Music standards addressed:

• Perceive and respond to messages in music and the use of music elements.

• Describe what music makes one think about or what it is saying to them personally.

• Demonstrate familiarity with suggested listening selections.

• Recognize the personal success and achievement in other's music performance.

This lesson is anchored in 3rd Grade Music, and involves, art, and language arts to a lesser extent.  This lesson may also be used in 4th through 6th Grades as well. In addition, this lesson will also encourage learners to use the skills of inference making, critical thinking, creative production, comparison, teamwork, compromise, and public speaking.
