Process
Step #1: Your musical journey begins as you become a member of a team. Your Teacher will assign you to your team of travel companions.
Step 2#: Decide among your team which job you will each be in charge of while on your musical discovery.
- Driver: Keyboard operator
- Co-Pilot: Mouse operator
- Navigator: Information finder
- First Mate: scribe/writes down the information
Step #3: You will have to take along a "traveling map" of questions, that need to be answered while traveling on your journey. Book1.xls
Step #4: You will be making 6 stops on your journey to listen to music. Listen carefully to each song, and answer the questions on your individual "traveling map" after each stop.
Follow these links to the songs on your musical journey:
- Symphony #5, by Ludwig Van Beethoven: Symphony No. 5
- The Four Seasons, by Antonio Vivaldi: The Four Seasons
- Flight of the Bumblebee, by Nikolai Korsakov: Flight of the Bumblebee
- Rodeo by Aaron Copeland: Rodeo
- Marche Militaire, by Franz Shubert: Marche Militaire
- Waltz of the Reed Pipes, by Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky:Waltz of the Reed Pipes
Step #5: Your team will now need to reach a group decision, about what your favorite song was on your musical journey. Making this choice will require cooperation and compromise, so be a good team player with your fellow travelers.
Step #6: Now that you have decided what your team's favorite song is, you will need to take a detour on your journey. This detour will help you learn more about the composer, who wrote the song that you enjoyed so much. You will need to use the composer's worksheet to complete this portion of your musical journey. Here are the links you will use to help you learn more about your composer:

Step #6: You and your fellow travelers will now get a chance to create a show piece, to share with all of the other travelers. This show piece will represent the feelings or thoughts that your chosen song made you experience. You can draw a picture, write a poem, a story, make up words to go along to your favorite music, do a dance, or a play. The possibilities are endless, so have fun, and let your imaginations run wild!
Step #7: You are now home from your musical journey. Now you and your teammates will get to unpack your suitcases, and share your souvenirs with the rest of the travelers. You will need to present the information you have researched about your composer, as well as your creative representation of your chosen song.
