Students will investigate the history of commonly used units of measurement, convert from one unit to another within the same system of measurement, create a scale drawing, design a new unit to measure length, and write a persuasive letter defending the adoption of their new unit.

Teacher Introduction

I designed this WebQuest for my gifted sixth grade math students to use independently in our study of measurement and scale.  Before starting we practiced measuring lines in centimeters and inches, as well as discussed the common units found in the customary and metric systems.
