Teacher Process

Task:  We all know our students have trouble with the writing process. You will assign each group one of the following: prewriting, writing, editing, revising, and publishing.

Your task, if you so choose to accept it, is to teach the steps of the writing process then assign the students their WebQuest Project. The topic is a persuasive essay on uniforms in school.

This will be an individual assignment for each student.

You will need to provide the class with examples, appropriate worksheets, and a grading rubric.

Process: We all know that teachers dread teaching writing.  It is one of the tasks that many are not comfortable with.  With this process, it is broken down to help you teach persuasive writing in Phases!

Phase I: Background Discuss with your class about their view on school uniforms.  Define Persuasive writing and the writing process.

Phase II:

Looking Deeper  Begin working with your class on their PreWriting.  Every student should fill out a graphic organizer from their stance on uniforms in school.

Phase III: Writing Once your class has finished

with their prewriting.  Spend some time discussing

writing the rough draft.  Then have you students

write the first draft!

Phase IV: Become an Expert Editing!!!!!  Have a hand

out with the proofreading marks available for your

class. Do peer editing making sure students sign the

one they edit in order to get credit!  Have students

then write a second draft and you edit them.  If

there is time, do student/ teacher conference with

each student to discuss edits.

Phase V: Revision    Have students then write a

second draft and you edit them.  If there is time, do

student/ teacher conference with each student to

discuss edits.

Phase VI: Publishing This is the final section of

writing.  You can decide how you would like the final

product your students produce to look like.
