Process

So this picture...                     ...................

Who can tell me what they think it is? Yes, any of you. Give it a shot and write it in your "Quest Journal".  (Remember that I told you that it was missing from the  grandfather clock)

I need one of you to click on the link below. This site should tell you something about this odd- looking piece.

Good job guys! You've found that it is a pendulum ; ) I bet that's what each of you wrote in your journals. If not, it is ok, you can write the answer under what you've written.

NOW FRIENDS...

Click on the link below to find out why this piece is so important to the clock that I have in my possession.

Everything seen on this site is quite interesting, but let's focus on #1 because this bit of information will help you to find me.

So it says that a pendulum can be used to provide accurate time-keeping. Hmm, interesting you say.

Wow! I just heard one of you say that your watch is like a pendulum. Wonderful! This is true!  Your watch keeps time, and more importantly, it has "hands" on it to help you keep time, just like a pendulum.

Do you know what else keeps time? That's right sleuths! Clocks! The following 3 links below are for you to get a better understanding of the basics of a clock.  In your "Quest Journals" you are to write down any information that you find interesting that you didn't know before about clocks and make note of something you like about the pendulum clock found in the first link.

History of Clocks: http://www.arcytech.org/java/clock/clock_history.html

What you see on a clock: http://www.arcytech.org/java/clock/about_clocks.html

Learning to Tell Time: http://www.arcytech.org/java/clock/telling_time.html

I WANT TO KNOW WHAT YOU KNOW...

Scan the room for me with either your watch or your quest journal.  Do you see those doors below you? Each of you will do 3 out of the 4 activities individually first behind those doors that involve clocks and telling time.  When you are through, you will write in your "Quest Journal" and discuss what you learned about each activity.

"It's Time"       "Two ways to read time"       "Telling Time"         "Once Upon a Time"

Here are a couple of questions to guide you in writing about your activity.  Don't forget to write in full sentences.(The first question is a guide as to how I want you to write your sentences : )

Was the activity helpful to you?   (This activity was helpful to me because...)

Was the activity fun? Tell why. If you didn't like it, explain this too!

Did the activity tell you anything that you didn't know about keeping time? What...and tell why.

THIS IS THE KEY!!! You may help each other after you've tackled each activity alone and be creative when writing your own answers.  It is important that you write your own answers to each activity because they will be of great use to me in the Conclusion room.  Each response holds the key to unlocking the Conclusion room before you 4 can enter it!

Remember to do your best and attempt at least 3 activities out of the 4 and write about them in your journal.

Good job everyone! You are so close to helping me return the grandfather clock back to the Hall of Time. Your journal writings mean a lot to this quest so let's proceed to the Evaluation room by clicking on the key below.
