Problem solving, persuasive writing, and compromise are all aspects of the curriculum for any elementary classroom in a number of subjects. This webquest explores all of these along with enhancing internet skills, a deeper exploration of fairy tales, and an introduction to Canada's criminal trial process (which can be furthered through a teacher implemented mock trial).
This webquest is specifically designed for grade 6 students and encompasses many of the grade 6 language arts curriculum outcomes. However, the webquest can be adapted to any grade 3 to grade 8 classroom. To accomplish their task, students will have to use websites provided to enhance their persuasive, argumentative, problem solving, and compromising skills and then use their understanding of these skills to prepare a writing piece to either defend, prosecute, or judge fairy tale characters. To complete this process students will need to gain an in depth understanding of their fairy tale through exploration of its history and the meaning of fairy tales in general. The fairy tales used are classic and therefore may be unfamiliar to the students. Classic fairy tales are not the average mainstream fairy tales and are usually dark in nature which will make them appealing to an older age group.
