Process

When you are ready to being planning our trip go to this link:

Blank Map

At this link you should print off the map and send one of your team members to go collect the map from the printer.

Once you have the map printed out go to this site and look at the maps:

United States Maps

From this site you need to find the Appalachian Mountains, the Rocky Mountains, the Mississippi River, the Hudson River, the Rio Grande, the Ohio River and the Colorado River. Mark these places on the map you have already printed out. You may have to look at more than one map in order to make sure you have the location of the landmarks in the right states!

Once you have the 7 locations drawn on your map your team needs to devise a route for our school bus to follow! Make sure you start in Georgia and end in Georgia and cross each one of the 7 landmarks. You can cross these landmarks in any order and at any place. You only have to visit each place once. (For example: the Mississippi River is very long! If you cross it traveling to the Rocky Mountains you don't have to cross it again unless you want to.)

Once you have drawn your route onto the map take a look at this link:

States Map

Label the name of each state you go through on your map. You can label all states if you would like, but you are only required to label the states that your route crosses.

Now here is the fun part! You get to decide where else we stop on our trip! The places you chose to stop need to be in states along your route and you can only pick one place per state. You only need to pick 6 stops but you can pick more if you would like. Be creative in deciding where you want to stop. You can pick amusement parks, tourist attractions, landmarks, malls or whatever else you can think of. Have fun with this! Use these sites to find interesting places in the state of your choice:

When your group has decided where we will stop mark the places on your map in the correct state. As a group practice and be ready to present your field trip to the class using our map in front of the classroom. You must be able to point out each stop along our trip including the 7 mandatory landmarks and the 6 stops you chose as a group. When your group feels prepared to present the trip you are ready to move on to your individual project.

For the individual project each person in your group should chose one of the seven major landmarks. Each person in the group should have a different place. Find your landmark on the list below and make a power-point slide show that shows where your landmark is, what states it crosses, and at least 3 facts about it.

(Colorado River)

(Mississippi River)

(Hudson River)

(Rio Grande)

(Ohio River)

(Appalachian Mountains)

(Rocky Mountains)
