Teacher Process
Process
Students will be placed in scientific teams of three. Each student must select to participate on their team in one of the following rolls;
1. Laboratory Technician: will be responsible to record all groups information and findings
2. Researcher: will be responsible to direct and guide the search in an organized fashion insuring that each major point of discovery will be made and all required parts of the process have been completed.
3. Presentation Coordinator: Will be responsible to place the information discovered into a format which can be presented electronically to the class.
Step One:
Students will discover why it is Robert Hooke believed the cell to empty?
Step Two:
Next, they will determine what tools are necessary to make the discovery of the living cell.
Step Three
Students will investigate the size of a cell.
Levels of Organization
Step Four
What did you discover about the living cell?
Step Five
Next, students will each become scientist in the actual laboratory. Students will create their own slide of animal cells and plant cells. They will be required to observe both plant and animal cells through a microscope. Students will label the parts of a cell on paper upon completion of their lab work. Students will discuss with their team members the different parts of the cell which can be identified through the microscope and record their findings. The findings should be included in their presentation for the classroom.
For students who may be new to the microscope the following link is a microscope tutorial:
Step Six
As an individual review, analyze and interpret the information you have chosen to record. Then as a group brainstorm your ideas on how best to compile and present your information review the following website on how to brainstorm:
Step Seven
Synthesize the information that you think is the most important to include in your presentation on the living cell.
Step Eight
Students will create their findings in a PowerPoint format and present their findings to the classroom.
