Students will come to understand some of the ways the United States has been influenced by the many immigrant groups that form this country. Students will use this information to design a museum exhibit.

Teacher Introduction

This WebQuest is designed to introduce students to contributions made by some of the groups who have immigrated to the United States. They will research contributions made by immigrants from Asia, Africa, Europe, and Central and South American. How have these people influenced the culture of the United States? Suggestions for understandings and experiences the students should have prior to completing this WebQuest are included on the teacher process page.

While a variety of units could include this WebQuest, it was designed as part of a unit studying assimilation in the United States. After completing this WebQuest and other lessons, the students will be asked to decide whether a melting pot, a mixing bowl, or something else would be the best analogy for assimilation in the United States, and which level of assimilation would be best for the people of the United States.

This WebQuest will take approximately 30 minutes per day for 7 days.
