Teacher Process
This webquest will require one week to complete. Students will be using computers each of the first four days so there should be enough computers available so that each group will have access to one (at least five computers). Additionally, this quest is designed for five groups with four students in each group. Depending on the class size, groups can consist of three or five members but should not be any smaller or larger. You can have less groups if the class size is very small.
- Day 1: You should introduce what a Webquest is and assign groups according to the criteria above. Once groups have been assigned, students should be instructed to explore the introduction and task sections of the quest and choose three of the composers listed, after they have previewed information about each one. Once each group has selected three composers, you should use these to assign a particular composer to each group (make sure each group has a different composer).
- Day 2: Students will get with their group and begin the process section of the quest. Here they will learn the aspects of an interview, determine the jobs of each member, and view a list of questions that will aid them in their research (you may want to print out a copy of the questions for each group). Once this is finished, students may begin their research.
- Day 3: Students will use the links provided to research their composer. They will use the questions previously provided to help them find important facts to include in their interview. If the students finish their research, they can begin organizing their interview/presentation.
- Day 4: Students will organize their information into an interview and make the note cards and resource list. You should encourage the students to do a practice run of their presentation (you may need an additional room or hallway space for this). Additionally, students will need to make any props that they will need for their presentation. At the end of day four all groups should have everything finished.
- Day 5: The students will present their interview to the class. At the end of the presentation students should turn their notecards and resource page in to you for grading.
A rubric is provided for you to use. One section of this rubric regards the timing and pace of the presentation. You should let students know on the first day of this assignment a range of time each group will have to present their interview. Please remember to allow time for each group to set up any props they may have.
