Teacher Process

Your students will plan a tour for the entire class.  They've been instructed to consider the interests and wishes of others in the class, and to be mindful of time constraints and the need for a lunch break.

They will also plan at least two travel stops along the way for a snack or restroom break.  A pdf copy of the Missouri State Highway Map has been provided to aid students in locating points of interest along the travel route which would be well-timed travel stops and also  provide additional opportunities to learn about Missouri.

Time constraints also include instructions to plan on getting home in time so that everyone can rest up and be on-time for school the next day.  You may want to provide a precise return time.

Once finished, students will prepare an itinerary and a Powerpoint presentation.  They should  present this in front of the class and provide a written report for each classmate to review.  Their  goal is to convince the rest of the class to choose their travel plan.

It would be advisable to structure this as a group project in some way.  You might consider breaking the class into four or five groups and having each group prepare a presentation.  They could vote within their group after completing research, then try to "sell" the rest of the class on their ideas.  Another approach would be to have the entire class work on research together or individually, poll each other and work together in groups to produce the presentation.

For the sake of simplicity, it is recommended that you pre-select a series of extra stops along the travel route to the Capitol from your own area of the state which students can research and choose from.
