This WebQuest, designed especially for fourth graders, will help students research and make travel plans to the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City. Students will also map out a travel route and have the opportunity to stop and explore sites along the way.

Introduction

Planning is important for success.  Can you imagine taking a trip without planning where you're going, how long you'll be gone or what you're going to do while you're there?  That would be a recipe for disaster.  In fact, it's been said that "Failing to plan is just planning to fail."  Good planners map out their destination, travel route and time of stay so they can enjoy their trip and get the most out of it.

There are many sites to see in Jefferson City.  Of course there's the State Capitol, one of the most beautiful in all the fifty states.  There are many other sites that good planners might have time to see such as the Missouri Supreme Court, the Governor's Mansion, the Missouri Highway Patrol Safety Center Museum, and the century old boat port on the Missouri River known as Jefferson Landing State Historic Site.

Some students like to see the old state prison, spend time at the Runge Conservation Nature Center, or tour the Capitol grounds and explore the monuments, like the replica of the Liberty Bell, the Missouri Veterans and Law Enforcement Memorials and the many fountains.  The Missouri State Museum is a must for any student who would like to know more about how we got the Missouri we have today.

Plan well, choose wisely and have a great trip!
