Each group of people who arrived in America endured difficult times. Even children had a tough lives. Their lives were affected... education, work, play, etc. We will explore the lives of the Dutch colonists and African-Americans in Colonial New Netherlands and its capital, New Amsterdam.
Teacher Introduction
The purpose of this webquest is for students to learn about Colonial New York. They will learn through examining different viewpoints and experiences in Colonial New York:
- In this quest, students will read about the first colonists in North America, the Dutch. They will learn about the adaptations that these settlers had to make upon arriving and establishing themselves in this new land.
- Children will learn about slavery in Colonial New York. Children will learn about the day-to-day lives of enslaved African-Americans and understand the injustices of the system of slavery.
