Process
- First, open a PowerPoint document.
- Next, insert four new slides. You now have five slides.
- The first page is your title page. Give your PowerPoint the title Utah Animals and Environments.
- On the second page, the heading will be Desert.
- The third page, the heading will be Forest.
- The fourth page heading will be Wetlands.
- The last page is your bibilography, where you will list all the resources and websites you used to find the information for your presentation. The heading will be Bibliography. Make sure to copy and paste the URL of the website where you found your information and pictures as you go.
Now you are ready to do your research!
- Let's start with the Desert slide.
- Brainstorm (think of) an animal that lives in Utah's deserts. Do an internet search for the animal and write 3 interesting facts. If you're having a hard time thinking of one, you can find one at the following link:
Desert Animals and select vertebrate animals at the top of the page.
- This will give you a list of animals with "Desert" in their names. Choose an animal.
- Read the description of the animal and take notes on three facts about this animal. Your first fact should describe what the animals is (insect, mammal, bird, etc). The second fact will describe what it looks like. The third fact will describe what physical adaptation the animal has that makes it able to survive in its environment. Make sure to explain why it works.
- Now, go to your Desert PowerPoint slide, and write the name of your animal after the title (example: Desert - Rattlesnake).
- Write the three facts that you recorded.
- Do the same with the Forests and Wetlands slides.
Forest Animals and select Rocky Mountains on the left of the screen.
Wetlands you'll find the information you need on page 3 of this site.
Now you are ready to add pictures to your presentation.
First, you will put a background picture on your slides.
- Find a Utah desert picture and save it to your Images shared folder or your desktop.
- Go to the Desert slide and apply it as a background image.
Go to the Design tab. On the top right, you'll select the Background tab. Select Picture or Text Fill. Select File. Find your picture and select Insert. Then select Close. Your picture should now be the background of your slide.
- Do the same with Forests and Wetlands.
Now you are ready to add a photograph of your animal.
- Find an image on the internet of the animal you chose and paste it onto your slide. Remember not to paste it into your textbox. Move your cursor to the outside of the slide so that it turns into a white arrow. Then you can paste it.
Finally, it is time to create your bibliography.
- You should already have your links from your information and pictures on your bibliography. Make sure each website has a title and the URL.
