Learners
Before beginning this webquest learners should have a solid skill foundation with basic consonant sounds. This webquest is the first in a series that introduces the learner to short vowels and beginning basic blending of three sounds for reading. It reinforces sound / symbol correspondence, phonics, and phonemic awareness in a multi-sensory manner. It is intended to be used for practice and solidification of the short a nd short e vowel sounds. Direct instruction should occur prior to the use of this webcast. Furthermore, individual diagnositic assessment should follow this webquest to ensure understanding and mastery before beginnning the next set in the series. Many of the activities align with Orton-Gillingham methodologies but if the learner is not familiar with and/or does not partake in the correct facilitation of these skills then multi-sensory learning will likely not occur and the webquest will be less effective.
