Teacher Process
This project can be completed in a week ot it can be stretched out over a couple of weeks. The lesson plan I have developed can be completed in just over a week. Instead of having the groups read a different excerpt they could read a different book. This would obviously take longer to complete.
When the students are putting together their visual you may want to provide them with construction paper, colored paper, over head sheets, markers, scissors, glue, and anything else the students might want to use to create their visual.
** Below I have included about what day you should be on what step**
Step 1:
Y Make sure you have FUN!! ![]()
Step 2: Day 1 - Include a brief introduction of the Holocaust or due this the previous week
Y Break up into groups of four
o You pick your group!!
Y Pick a number between one and ten
Step 3: Day 1 - Have them at least read the excerpt. They can continue discussion the next day
Y Read the excerpt and discuss the piece in your group
o What did you think …
§ About the author?
§ About their situation?
o How would you have acted in the same situation?
o Do you think you would be able to survive?
o Did the author use any literary strategies?
**Answer this question on a piece of paper to turn in. One per group is
plenty**
Step 4: Day 2 / 3 - finish the discussion if needed and then go to the computer lab to work. This may take 2 days to complete
Y Travel to the computer lab where you will each research one of the topics listed below. Decide which group member will research what.
1. Your authors life before the Holocaust
2. The authors life after the Holocaust
3. What happened to the author’s family?
4. Facts about the camp or ghetto they were in
** Be sure to write down and / or print the information you find. You will be giving a presentation.**
Step 5: Day 3 / 4 - depended on how fast your students work you should be somewhere within this timeframe
Y Meet up with your group and discuss the information you each found. Begin thinking and mapping out how you will visually display your information. Start putting your visual together.
Y Include these things in your presentation:
1. Your authors life before the Holocaust
2. The authors life after the Holocaust
3. What happened to the author’s family?
4. Facts about the camp or ghetto they were in
5. Describe what happened in your excerpt to the class
Step 6: Day 5 / 6 - you want to give your studentd as much time as possible to present and to reflect
Y After each presentation write down a few sentences (to turn in) about what you thought about the information just presented to you.
