FAMILY RESPONSIBILITIES 

You will be randomly assigned by your teacher to a team representing members of a Muslim "family" of four - a mother, a father, and two school-age children. Each family member will have an assigned role and task to perform to prepare for the Hajj.  Each family member's assignment and link to his or her task sheet is provided below.  MAKE SURE YOU OPEN EACH LINK AND PRINT THE TASK SHEET :

 

Father - Your job is to arrange all ground and air transportation in the United States and Saudi Arabia.  TASK SHEET

       

 

Mother - Your assignment is to arrange all hotel accommodations and meals while the family is taking part in the Hajj.  TASK SHEET

   
 

Children - Your assignment is to research the twelve steps of the Hajj.  TASK SHEET

       

All Family Members - you will work together to research all travel documentation requirements and keep track of all trip expenditures to make sure you stay within the family budget.  You will also plot information on a map of Saudi Arabia.               TASK SHEET     BUDGET SPREADSHEET    MAP

FAMILY MEETING

Once each member of your family has completed his or her task, come together as a family to discuss your findings and to make decisions about what tasks need to be researched further.  You will also need to review your budget and discuss any financial concerns.  You may need to go back and make changes to your trip plans so as not go over your budget (for instance, instead of staying at a five-star hotel, you may need to make your reservations at a three-star hotel to save money).

Once you have completed all of your research, your family will have to put the information together in the form of an oral and visual presentation.  Start thinking about how your want your presentation to look.

FAMILY PRESENTATION

Now that you have all of the information for your trip, you need to share your findings with the other Muslim families in your neighborhood so that they can find out more about the Hajj.  *Before you begin, be sure to consult the project rubric for evaluation criteria.

About your presentation:

1.   It must be on poster board.

2.   It must be neat, legible, and colorful.  You may type the content or write it by hand with no grammar, punctuation, or spelling errors.

3.   It must have a title:  “A Pilgrimage to Mecca,” “Our Hajj,” or something similar.

4.   All sections of the presentation must be labeled.

5.   It must include your COLOR map of Saudi Arabia with Mecca, Medina, Jidda, Riyadh (capital city), and the Persian Gulf labeled.

6.   It must include all travel requirement and tourist restriction information.  Include one illustration.

7.   It must include flight and ground transportation information.  Include one illustration.

8.   It must include hotel and meal information.  Include one illustration.

9.   It must include information about the Hajj.  Explain all twelve steps.  Include one illustration.

10. It must include budget information.  Complete, print, and display the Excel spreadsheet for this part of your presentation.

11. Creativity and originality are important!
