Process
For your trip, everyone will start at their own home. The end destinations will be different, but they will all be on the East Coast of the United States. You may work in groups of 2, or by yourself.
You will all use the same following information:
You will be using a car that has a 13 gallon tank and uses 28 mpg. In this adventure, gas prices will stay at $3.04 per gallon for the whole trip.
The following are the web tools you will need to use. You will need a free google account. We can use our class geocaching account.
You need to start by making your google map. Put in your starting address (if you are working in a group of 2, just pick one address), and your end address. If your end address is just a city, pick a place in the city (museum, city hall). Then you will have your total miles for the trip. This will help you with your gas calculations

Once you have your map, pick places of interest or states on the map you would like to stop at. Add them to your google map with a pin point of what you want to do there, where you would eat, etc. You may google the name of the city to find some information, as well as Waymark.
When selecting your places of interest, you must keep in mind you will need to refill gas. Use your calculations to see where you have to refill. You may need to make additional stops inbetween your stops of interest to get gas.
Use Waymark to find attractions in certain places. Add pin points for those as well.
When you have completed your map you will e mail the link, and give a breif presentation to the class on the following topics:
- Where you end point was and why.
- 3 of your favorite stops along the way and why.
- The total miles drivin
- The total amount of gas used (in gallons)
- The total amount of money spent on gas
- What geocach you took and where you placed it
- Something that surprised you
