An image of Katie Couric, originally released in May by CBS, was slimmed down for reuse. The left photo is the official first-pic-of-Katie released by CBS. (TVNewser posted it in May.) The doctored photo on the right appears in the September issue of Watch magazine, which is owned by CBS, according to Mediabistro.com, which first reported on the alteration.

Process
This WebQuest is to be implemented in three four-hour periods OR six two-hour periods, with homework goals for completing work. The following schedule is based on a class that meets once a week, for four hours per class.
It is assumed that students have access to computer design labs during designated open lab time, in order to meet weekly goals by finishing outside of class.
- Week 1: Project Introduction. Process 1.
- Students will need to ensure they have completed journal and saved to public drive prior to week 2.
- Week 2: Process 2. Time management is crucial, as students will need to fully connect with assigned peers and finalize direction during class time. Image may be started during class.
- A refresher / reminder on key image manipulation techniques, such as vanishing points and perspective lines may be helpful.
- Image and news story may need to be completed during homework time.
- Students should save files, but NOT post them to the blog until Week 3's class meeting.
- Week 3: Instructor should guide students in posting to blog. Students should have an opportunity to collect reflective thoughts in writing, then participate in class discussion.
Substitutions can be made throughout the process. For example:
- If the material in The Onion is too sensitive for your classroom audience, consider using advertising, celebrity gossip magazines, or fashion magazines to make your point.
- If digital manipulation software is unavailable, consider have the students compile a carefully crafted collage. This will obviously change the skill set goals of the lesson.
- If a blog format is unavailable, consider posting to a website or other digital environment. Let the students know that unacceptable content will be flagged.
