Task

In this WebQuest, you will work both individually and in groups. At first, you will act as an individual as the absolute ruler of the city of the future. Then, you will imagine that you are one of the religion's founders and will research your assigned religion in groups. Finally, you will revert back to being the ruler and determine what religion you would choose.

You will assume TWO different roles in this WebQuest.

Part One: Brainstorming INDIVIDUALLY- you will act as the ruler of your future city.

Part Two: Research your assigned religion in GROUPS- your group will assume the role of the founder of your religion. You will research using Internet sources and will present your findings in a PowerPoint presentation at the "illegal dinner party".

Group roles:

Researcher: EVERYONE will act as researcher and will determine the founder, sacred text, brief history, and major beliefs of your assigned religion using the Internet sources provided.

Creator: ONE person will create the template of the PowerPoint presentation using the suggestions of other group members. The creator is also responsible for transitions between slides and other PowerPoint "fluff". Forget how to create a PowerPoint presentation?  Just go to the site: http://www.bcschools.net/staff/PowerPointHelp.htm or ask Mrs. Hirtreiter for help.

Recorder: ONE person will record the information about the group's religion on the PowerPoint slides.

Expert: Since all group members acted as researchers, EVERYONE will show they are experts at your assigned religion by adding information to be included on the PowerPoint presentation.

You were assigned a number when you walked in the door. That number determines your group. Assigned religions are as follows:

Group 1: Hinduism

Group 2: Buddhism

Group 3: Judaism

Group 4: Christianity

Group 5: Islam

Part Three: When other "founders" are making their PowerPoint Presentations, you will listen as the ruler (INDIVIDUALLY). Create a chart that shows characteristics of world belief systems and write an essay describing why you choose particular aspects of religions over others.

By the end of the WebQuest, you will be able to:

1. Understand characteristics of the five major world religions.

2. Create a PowerPoint Presentation to convince others of the importance of your assigned religion.

3. Compare and contrast the characteristics of the five major world religions.

4. Evaluate and critique the five major world religions.

5. Determine the importance of religion in the everyday lives of people throughout the world.
