Process

Step #1- INDIVIDUALLY complete a brainstorm about what you already know about the world religions and create a mind map. Ask yourself the following questions:

What is a religion?

What religions can I name?

Do I know the names of any founders of a religion?

What sacred texts do I know?

When I think of a particular religion, what words come to mind?

Create a mind map on a separate sheet of paper showing what you already know about religion. It should be handwritten. Keep your mind map. You will use it again at the end of this WebQuest.

Step #2: You are now ready to work in groups and research. Go back to the task if you forgot your group's assigned religion. Remember, ALL group members are acting as researchers. Use the following online resources for information and write information about your religion on your "World Religion Charts":

(Remember that you need to find information on the founder, brief history, holidays, sacred text(s), major beliefs, ways of living, god(s), and other interesting facts)

Step #3: Now, work together in your GROUP ROLES (as defined in the Task) and complete your PowerPoint presentation. Your PowerPoint should include at least TEN slides and have at least SIX images. Remember, this is an informational presentation about your assigned faith. You will present your PowerPoint to the "illegal dinner party".

Step #4: It is now time for you to present your PowerPoint at the "illegal dinner party". EACH member of your group should present at last TWO slides. Remember that you are acting as the founder of your religion (Hinduism group- please see me)- assume that role! Sell your religion to members of the future city!

When you are not making your presentation, you are to assume the role of the absolute ruler of the future city. You are to take notes on each presentation on the "World Religion Charts" provided. Feel free to ask questions to the presenters! Remember that you are at an illegal/ underground party. There should be no noise other than the students making the presentation. You do not want to be found out!

Step #5: Assume the role of the ruler. Looking at your presentation notes, complete the mind map you created in Step #1. This step is to be completed INDIVIDUALLY. Be creative in the set-up of your mind map! You must show how the world religions are similar and how they are different.

Step #6: Create your own religion that you would like the people of your city to follow. You need to write your ideas in essay format so that it may be approved by the country ruler first. Use your charts and mind map to help you!  Be sure to convince that ruler of your faith by using specific facts and examples given to you during the secret presentations. You must include the parts of the religions you deem most important and explain why you felt it was important. Remember that religions need to include culture, major beliefs, symbols, ways of life, and god(s). How will your religion affect the lives of the people of your city?
