Teacher Process

Students will first be taught how to use Microsoft software applications; namely, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher and the Inspiration software.  A connection to the World Wide Web is also a requirement so that their computers can be used to find some of the information.

A classroom library with both narrative and expository texts on subjects of heat, light, sound, pollution, ecology et. cetera, would be very helpful.  The students will be shown how to find specific information found in expository material and how to look up information in the school library.

Access to a public library and knowledge of how to look up information on the subject of this Web Quest is important, but not absolutely essential.

In preparation, the teacher may want to call local and national governmental organizations such as the Environmental Protection Agency, The United States Department. of Energy, the National Forest Service, the State Fish and Game, Rocky Mountain Power and Questar, disposal and land fill organizations, World Wildlife Fund and animal rights organizations.  Additional ideas for the list of possible contacts can be found by using Google to find other people and organizations that would be willing to come to the classroom and present on issues of energy and pollution or have a group(s) of kids come to their work site so the class would be exposed to people they could interview.
