A diary or journal is a book that is written by the person who is living within that time.  It is like an auto biography but written as the events happen in the writers life.

    1. Your teacher will divide you into partners. Your task is to take the role of a Native American child and complete 2 journal entries depicting what your thoughts and feelings would have been around the 1800's.

You will take on the role of a boy or a girl, 8-9 years of age just like you. You will research what life was like for a child in a tribe. What were some of the chores the children had to do? What did they eat? What did they do for fun? You will complete two journal entries from this child's point of view.

Remember this is the time of the 1800's and you will be writing from that point of view. Also keep in mind they did not have computers so the entries must be hand written and so will your own journal entries since most people who write in journals or diaries do it by hand not computer.  You need to make sure that the information you include in the Native American journal is historically accurate, that means the information must be true and can be proven.

2) You will create 2 Inspiration webs, one for you and your life and one as a Native American child.  You will then take these webs a create 2 journal entries from your point of view as an 8-9 year old living in West Valley City, as of today. Then create 2 journals as a Native American child. So you will be required to write 2 journal entries from the point of view of a Native American child and 2 journal entries as yourself. You will also need to include illustrations of objects or tool, models of a shelter, article of clothing.  Your partner will help with editing your entry and give you feedback regarding its strengths and weaknesses. After you have written the journals you will also be responsible for creating a power point and examine the similarities and differences between you both. You and your partner will help each to find the facts necessary to write your journal entries, however you are responsible for your own journals.  After you and your partner have gathered all the info you will join another partnership and again go over the information that you have found to finally write your journals.

3. Finally you and your group, 4 members will create a Power Point of all the things you learned about Native Americans. Your Power Point will need at last 4 slides, 1 title slide and then 3 other slides, remember you need 4; however you can add more if you want.
