Process
You have 5 days to complete your task, so don't dawdle! And don't skip ahead. Follow the schedule below and you will do a great job:
Days 1 & 2
Before you begin, you must become knowledgeable about the Olympics. You and your partner will research the Olympics, past and present, using the links below. The more you know about the Olympics, the easier it will be for you to decide on an event. You are expected to alternate reading the information listed in the sites below.
The International Olympic Committee
Summer Olympics Through the Years
Beijing Summer Olympics for Kids
The Real Story of the Olympic Games
Day 3
Print out and complete the Application for a New Summer Olympic Event , Use the websites you have been reviewing to help you fill out the application. Work together to determine the best answer for each application question. Turn in your application. Your application must be reviewed and signed by your teacher before you can move on to the next step.
Days 4 & 5
Now you are ready to create your brochure for your Olympic event. You will work with your partner to create a brochure in Microsoft Publisher that includes:
The name of your Olympic Event
The general rules of your Olympic Event
Any special facilities or materials you will need for your event (a track, an arena, a pool, a ball, etc...)
The reasons why your Olympic Event should be chosen
No more than 3 pictures and/or photos. (You can search any approved picture sites, or you can create your own pictures in Paint and import them into your brochure)
Remember:
Be convincing and creative! You are competing against thousands of other kids.
