         Part 1

First, you and your partner will need to learning about citizenship and being a citizen.

Citizens of the United States know about their government and the symbols of our country.  Next, you and your partner will learn more about the United States.

Print the form and answer the questions as you learn more about our government and our country's symbols.  You and your partner will each need to complete a form.

    Part 3      

You and your partner know more about the rights and responsibilities of being a citizen of the United States and the symbols of the United States. Now you need to apply what you have learned to focus on being a citizen of our classroom.

Use the form to record your ideas as you and your partner create symbols for our class and a brochure introducing new citizens (students) to our classroom.

1.  First, our classroom needs its own symbols.  You will design a class flag.  Think about the meaning of the colors and symbols you use on our flag.  Check out the Flags of the World for some ideas.

Use Paint to draw a flag for our class and print it.  You and your partner will create the flag together.  You can print two copies.  To open Paint, click on the Start menu and click on Paint.

 

 

2.  Our classroom needs its own mascot.  You and your partner will need to choose a mascot for our class and explain why it is a good mascot for us.  Look at these animal sites for ideas.

Use Paint to draw our class mascot and print it.  You and your partner will draw the mascot together.  You can print two copies.

 

3.  Our classroom needs to have rights and responsibilities of our class citizens.  Write at least three rights and three responsibilities of citizenship in our class.  What does a new student need to know about our class?  Write at least three things a new student will need to know to become a citizen.

 

4.  Create a brochure we can give to new students introducing them to our class and how to be a good citizen of room 117.   Use Microsoft Publisher to create a brochure or use Microsoft Word to create a document.  You and your partner will create the brochure together.  You can print two copies.  To open Publisher, click on the Start menu, then click on Microsoft Publisher.  Click on Publications for Print, then click on Brochures.  Choose one of the Informational designs to use.


 

5.  You and your partner will share your project with the class.  Both of you need to speak.  Decide how you will share the work.  Make sure you show and tell the class about your flag, mascot, and brochure.
