Process
We will be setting the scene before we begin our first simulation. Your first assignment will be choosing a role in your group. Please come up and get copies of page 20 and 21. We will now discuss the attributes of each character. Attributes are extremely important in determining your survival. Each role comes with its own set of special skills and with strengths and weaknesses indicated by a number ranging from 1 to 5. These numbers are called "attributes." The higher the attribute number, the more able the character. The attributes are Strength, Common Sense, Stamina, Marksmanship, Agility, Medical Expertise, Morale, and Health.
Keeping a Journal: Please send up a group member to collect a copy of the cover page and "Equipment and Supplies" page and six copies of the blank Dear Diary page. You will be recording your experiences during the simulation in your journals on a daily basis. On the cover page please fill in the information about the character you have chosen-their name, role and rank, allegiance (Union or Confederacy), unit name, and attribute numbers.
Equipment and Supplies: You will be required to carry a uniform, a weapon, provisions, and ammunition. The strength of your character multiplied by 10 will determine how much weight you will be able to carry. If your character has the strength attribute of 3 you will carry 3 X 10= 30. After you choose your supplies please write them down on your Equipment and Supplies chart.
Injury, Disease, and Infection Tables: During the course of the simulation, you will be asked to make a variety of skill rolls to determine the consequences of your choices.
