Teacher Process
You need at least 6 weeks to complete this project. If your students spend 4 hours a week during your literacy block and another hour per week during the art time, 6 weeks works nicely but 5 weeks is possible. Students need to be in groups of 3 for this project. that means they decide on which role they want, they share the photo search responsibility and the "putting it all together" responsibility. I think it's best if you choose the groups depending on reading levels and personalities. The following schedule works pretty well, but you can adjust it as you need:
- Week 1 Students search sites for background information (decide roles this week)
- Week 2 Choose person to "research",start combing for information about your writing; review what a bibliography, editorial, historical description looks like (process 2)
- Week 3 continue the investigation, reading, note-taking, etc
- Week 4 Start the writing process, drafts, start the art portion-sketches and ideas
- Week 5 Start final drafts, photo searches, work on art
- Week 6 Finishing touches on everything- all work to be completed by Friday
