The characters of "Holes" have experienced or have been involved in a variety of real life issues. Stanley was bullyed in school. Zero was illiterate and was homeless before he came to Camp Green Lake. In this webquest students will explore some of the real life issues that Stanley was exposed to and come up with some sort of action they can take in their own community to address the problem.
Teacher Introduction
This webquest is an extension activity to the book Holes. The purpose is to motivate students to address some of the issues (i.e. homelessness, illiteracy, and bullying) that were identified in the story. Students will learn about the problem, make text-to-world and/or text-to-self connections, and come up with ways that they can take action. Essentially, this is a community action project stemming from fictional text.
