Teacher Process
Time considerations and suggestions for implementation:
* At least one class period will be needed to introduce the webquest and have students get into teams to discuss and select roles.
* Research will probably need 3-4 class periods. Have students take notes and show their notes each day for credit.
* Students who finish research or their slides early can become "experts" to help others having difficulty with their research. A sign up board can assist in identifying those who need help.
* Visit each of the teams of four at least once during the work time. A daily discussion of findings, problems, etc. and a sign up sheet for teacher help can minimize problems.
* Model skimming and notetaking with the class as a whole. Do this with background information you'd like the students to have. Show students how to ignore the distracting items on a webpage.
* Students can rate their group behavior and cooperation on a daily basis, if needed, with a quick check off sheet. That way problems don't fester for days until the teacher becomes aware of them.
* This WebQuest could also be done in groups of eight, with two students pairing to take a role. This would help support less capable readers.
