Task
Your task in this WebQuest is to go on a scavenger hunt of the Internet to find real-life reasons for using some of the math you will learn in sixth grade. Knowing what you will use the math for will help you to see the relevance of it to your own life.
You will choose from seven different themes, and work in a collaborative group to complete the WebQuest. The themes are: fractions, decimals, percents, proportions/ratios, measurement, integers, and polygons/angles.
You will be provided with a list of Web sites to visit about your theme. You will take notes on a graphic organizer for each site you visit, documenting how math is being used, and how you can see yourself using the math yourself!
After going on your scavenger hunt, you will design a PowerPoint slide show to share what you have learned with your classmates. Understanding how you will use math today and in the future will give you great motivation to master the math you will learn this year! It will answer the question, "Why do I have to learn this?".
