While exploring the Romantic Period of literature you will focus on the connection that the events of the time played in the literature. You should give special attention to the development and characteristics of "Nature Poetry." Next, you will need to review some terminology for figurative language. It is important that you develop an understanding of the background information and figurative language because next you will examine some popular poetry from the time.
While encountering these poems you will need to practice your close reading skills and be able to identify the literary devices being used in order to dissect the poetry in detail. This will help increase your comprehension of the poetry as well as your familiarity with the use of literary devices. Despite these skills, the poetry may still be difficult and therefore you will work in groups to examine and discuss the poetry together.
Finally, you will really have to put on your thinking cap because now you will become a citizen of the Romantic Period. Emulating what you have learned about this time period, "Nature Poetry," and literary mechanisms you will create your own Nature poem!
