Process

Day 1

Task 1 (15 minutes):

Today you will begin by choosing your jobs within the group. Each group member will contribute very important work  to the project, depending on their job. You will be assessed (graded) to determine how well you did your individual job, as well as how well you worked together as a group.

Please take a look at the job descriptions listed here.

When you have all decided on jobs, please list them on the top of your Day 1 task organizer.

Task 2 (60 minutes)

Next, you need to spend some time researching how art is related to math. Please check out the websites below and answer the questions about them on your Day 1 task organizer.

Dance

Music

Poetry

Visual Art

Spend about ten to fifteen minutes on each website.

Task 3 (15 minutes):

Think about which art form(s) you could use to teach a math lesson. As a group, please choose one primary art form out of the four that you researched and explain why you chose this art form to apply to a math lesson. This will be the main art form your group must use in your math lesson plan.

End of Day 1

Day 2

Task 1 (30 minutes):

You will be writing a lesson plan to address the following Geometry content standard:

22.0 Students know the effect of rigid motions on figures in the coordinate plane and space, including rotations, translations, and reflections.

  1. Read about rotations, translations and reflections here.
  2. Make a glossary of the terms Rotation, Translation and Reflection on your day 2 task organizer.

Task 2 (20 minutes):

Now that you know what you need to teach, please:

  1. Return to the art website you looked at the previous day - you need to do more research about your art.
  2. Find two additional web resources that will be helpful in your lesson planning.
  3. You will list these resources on your Day 2 Task Organizer, as well as cite them on your lesson plan.

NOTE: You may not change your art after learning about the content standard without permission from the teacher! All the art forms available are excellent for teaching this standard.

You may include more than one art form, so if you chose music and would like to include dance or poetry as well - go for it!

Task 3 (40 minutes):

Think of an activity that teaches, or reinforces the concepts of rotation, translation, and reflection. This activity must involve all students in the learner group and have a visual, auditory, and kinesthetic component.  Here are some examples of each:

Visual:

Auditory:

Kinesthetic:

Describe your activity in your Day 2 task organizer.

End of Day 2

Day 3

            Auditory Engineer: Anticipatory set (Introduction/Hook)

Kinesthetic Engineer: Check for understanding (Assessment)

            Teacher: Closure (Reflection)

(The Researcher/Recorder will compile all the information onto the task                     organizer.)

Task 2 (30 minutes):

Now is the time to make your lesson plan. Each person in the group is responsible for making the lesson plan outstanding. The Recorder will type it up and edit it for clarity and spelling/grammar.

Task 3 (30 minutes):

Now the group must practice delivering the lesson plan. The teacher will present the lesson to the group and one group member will observe, take notes and recommend changes. This is the time to practice using any materials you will need for the lesson.

GREAT WORK!

Next time we meet you will present your lesson to the class!
