Task
Day One
First, you will be collecting information on the author of The Hobbit, J.R.R. Tolkien. You will discover information about his life and his reasons for writing The Hobbit.
Then, you will pick interesting facts that you discovered about the author and present them in class during discussion.
Day Two
First, you will be asked to think about what characteristics define a hero. You will be viewing information on the internet regarding heroes.
Next, we will discuss what you read, and then you will be asked to complete a journal entry on the topic of heroism.
Once we read The Hobbit, you will be able to understand the author's perspective and compare and contrast your initial ideas of heroes with that of the main character and hero of the novel, Bilbo Baggins.
