Teacher Process
Although this is a project designed for partners, students
will need to do individual research, and then share their findings during group
time.
Students will review handout called, “Working in
Groups.” They each need to sign their
handout, and take it home for their parents to sign as well. This form will serve as a contract, detailing
agreed roles, throughout the entire unit.
Students will need to discover various forces and understand
how these forces impact the structural integrity of a bridge.
The students will need to compromise on a design, and then
draw it to scale on an 11” x 17” graph paper.
With given materials, students will construct their bridges
according to their design. Bridges will
undergo a load test (on the roadbed) to test it’s strength.
Students will need to calculate their bridges efficiency
after it’s tested.
Each student will need to do a project reflection at the end
the unit. Reflections must address the
essential questions given at the beginning of the project.
