Process

Task #1 -

The object of this project is to have fun, work hard, and, of course, learn about geometry!  Before beginning your project, you and your team must decide on a mathematical team name.   Once you have chosen your name create a nameplate for your team.

Task #2 -

For this task you will need to decide which geometric terms you will use for your presentation.  You need to have at least 15 different geometric figures in your final presentation.  You may choose some from the list below, but make sure to keep an open mind so when you find great geometric objects in the world you will have room for them.  If you need to make sure you know what each figure is you can use the links below.  Each group member will be responsible for photographing at least 3 geometric objects and completing PowerPoint slides with the photographs.

line segment                          parallelogram             cylinder

line                                      rectangle                   cone

parallel lines                         square                       sphere

intersecting lines                  rhombus                     cube

perpendicular lines               trapezoid                   prism

ray                                      pentagon                    pyramid

angle                                    hexagon                     concave polygon

acute angle                           heptagon                    convex polygon

obtuse angle                         octagon                      triangle

right angle                            nonagon                     quadrilateral

polygon                                 decagon

Task #3 - Once you have taken your pictures you will need to create a PowerPoint presentation to show how geometry is all around us.  Make sure to include the names of the geometric figures you find and explain (give a definition) what the figures are.  If we have to guess what it is, you did not do your job.

Task #4 - Give your presentation as a group.  Everyone needs to have a speaking part in the presentation.

 Here are some helpful hints!

¨       Sign out the digital camera from your teacher and get ready to begin hunting for geometry!  You will have to take turns.

¨       Look for examples of the geometry terms throughout our school and when you go home.

¨       When you find examples of the geometry terms, take a picture of them.

¨       The more geometric objects you find, the better your advertisement will be.

¨       Download your pictures onto your H: drive.  Use Picassa to edit any pictures that need touched up or cropped and then resave them.

¨       Work together as a team to create your PowerPoint.  You will be sharing a computer so devise a plan to make it work.  Part of your grade will be based upon how you work as a group.

¨       When you are finished, decide who will speak for each slide and practice your presentation outloud.

  Have fun!!!!
