Welcome Ace Scientists.  Your job this week is to learn about Chemical and Physical Changes.  You will find out that chemical and physical changes are all around you.  Your job is to find out what they are.  You will finish off the week by becoming Ace Scientists who will be able to teach others.

You will learn the differences between chemical and physical changes.

You will be able to find and identify examples in your life of both types of changes.

You will use the scientific process to see how a chemical change can clean up a dirty penny.

You will need to get together as a group with your teacher and bring one piece of scrap paper.  You will need to write your name on the paper and crumple it up.  Attach a string to it and your teacher will hang it from the ceiling or board.  Is this a chemical or physical reaction?  You will know the answer to this at the end of the week...HAVE FUN!

Now everyone will read this poem together before you return to your seats.

Chemical Reactions:  The Main Attraction

An Interactive Poem

The chemical reaction takes place in your skin

If sunning too long, you’d better get in!

If curly is how you like your hairdo,

Have we got a chemical reaction for you!

These chemical reactions help break down your food

When they don’t work well, you’re in a bad mood!

Some shiny metals end up not so fare

From this chemical reaction in water and air!

Bright streaks of color light up the sky,

With these chemical reactions in early July!

A chemical reaction that turns black to gray,

Food is so yummy when cooked well this way!

Those flashes you see as day becomes night

Are chemical reactions aloft in mid-flight!
