This WebQuest is designed for 8th grade students, who have a general background in U.S. History. Students should be familiar with women's roles in family and society in the past and how they have changed. Student should also know that African Americans were slaves in the United States until the North won the Civil War. If students are not familiar with this material some review may be necessary in a classroom discussion.
